Spooky season is here, Montana! From pumpkin carving to haunted houses that will give you chills, October is packed with ways to celebrate. Whether your ideal Halloween involves family-friendly trick-or-treating, costume contests with friends, or ghostly adventures after dark, you’ll find it happening across the Treasure State.

Family-Friendly Halloween Events

Boo at the Zoo - Billings, Montana: A family-friendly event with costumes, games, and treats at ZooMontana. Saturday, October 18th - 10:00am - 4:00pm
Community Halloween Carnival - Great Falls, Montana: Enjoy a family-friendly evening with games, art activities, a costume contest, and prizes. Concessions will be available for purchase. Friday, October 24 – 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. $5 per person.
Downtown Safe Trick-or-Treat - Great Falls, Montana: Celebrate Halloween with family-friendly trick-or-treating at participating downtown businesses. Look for flyers in windows along Central Avenue, 1st Avenue N, and 1st Avenue S to find the treats. Friday, October 31 – 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Fright Fest - Great Falls, Montana: Celebrate Halloween with candy, games, and costume contests at the Exhibition Hall, Montana Expo Park. Hosted by The Sober Life. Saturday, October 25 – 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Lolo Community Center Trunk-or-Treat - Lolo, Montana: Head to the Lolo Community Center on October 25 from 5–7 PM for a family-friendly Trunk-or-Treat! Decorated trunks will be ready for trick-or-treaters, and families are invited to join the fun.
Run for Your Life 5K & Kids’ Run - Bozeman, Montana: Lace up for this annual Halloween-themed run supporting The Help Center, Inc. Choose from a timed or untimed 5K, kids’ 1K fun run, or virtual option. Saturday, October 25 – Kids’ Run 9:30 a.m., 5K at 10:00 a.m. Registration $12–$30 (price increases after Oct. 6).
Halloween All Under One Roof at MPL - Missoula, Montana: Celebrate Halloween at Missoula Public Library with a full afternoon of spooky fun! Enjoy trick-or-treating, crafts, spooky science activities, story time, face painting, and even a pop-up dance performance. Saturday, October 25 – 12:00–3:00 p.m. Free and open to all ages.
Downtown Bozeman Trick-or-Treating - Bozeman, Montana: Enjoy safe and festive trick-or-treating with over 100 participating businesses in Downtown Bozeman. Friday, October 31 – 4:00–6:00 p.m. Free and family-friendly!
Skeleton Skedaddle 5K & Kids Pumpkin Run - Missoula, Montana: Join Run Wild Missoula and UM’s Physical Therapy Student Association for a Halloween-themed run at Silver Park. Kids 10 & under can participate in a free 400-meter Pumpkin Run starting at 10:00 a.m., with a personal pumpkin for finishers. The 5K follows ($15 early registration, $17 after October 2). Sunday, October 26 – 10:00 a.m. Costumes strongly encouraged.
Big Rock Fright Nights - Boulder, Montana: Family-friendly Halloween fun at Jefferson County Fairgrounds/Recreation Park, featuring pumpkin painting, arts & crafts, treats, games, and some spooky surprises. Montana Highway Patrol Trunk or Treat included. October 17–18 & 24–25, 6–9 PM. Admission $5. Tickets not required.
Little Tykes Trick or Treat - Helena, Montana: Celebrate Halloween with free trick-or-treating for kids in Downtown Helena. Local businesses and booths will hand out candy. October 31, 1–4 PM.
Haunted Attractions

Field of Screams - Victor, Montana: A classic haunted corn maze experience for thrill-seekers. Opens 9/26/25
Terror in the Cellhouse - Deer Lodge, Montana: Brave the haunted cellhouse maze at the Old Montana Prison Museum Complex—if you dare. The killers are on the loose and waiting for you. Fridays & Saturdays, October 17–18 and 24–25 – 6:00 p.m. to Midnight. Ages 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Trail of Terror - Great Falls, Montana
Screams Come True - Whitehall, Montana: This immersive haunted house features strobe lights, spooky scenes, and thrilling scares. First come, first served unless you purchase a VIP ticket. Doors open at 7:00 PM; arrive by 10:30 PM to guarantee entry. Not recommended for children under 7. Group size limited to 6 per tour. Food vendors, photo areas, and merchandise available. Tickets on sale soon.
Haunting at the Depot - Billings, Montana: Step into Montana’s spooky past with this immersive haunted attraction at the historic Depot. Featuring ghostly legends, eerie scenes, and region-based scares. Runs Thursday–Sunday across two weekends in October—October 17–20 and October 24–27. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., event ends at 11:00 p.m. Tickets required. Ages 13+ recommended.
Clydesdale Outpost Haunted Hayride - Whitefish, Montana: Experience the chilling legend of the Werewolves of Whitefish on a haunted hayride through twisted timber mines and flickering lanterns. Full Midway access with themed attractions, photo ops, live entertainment, and food vendors included. VIP tickets offer priority boarding, exclusive hoodie, and souvenir mug. October 16–18 & 23–25. General Admission $25; VIP $75. Tickets required.
Haunted Tours

Spooks & Spirits Haunted Tours - Butte, Montana: Explore Butte’s haunted history on this interactive tour featuring true tales of murder, mystery, and things that go bump in the night. Fridays and Saturdays in October, starting October 3 and ending October 25. Tickets $40.
Helena Haunted History Tours - Helena, Montana: Take a spooky ride through Helena’s haunted past on the Ghost Gulch Haunted Pub Trolley Tour. Hear chilling stories of hauntings at local landmarks including the Myrna Loy Theater, Cathedral of Saint Helena, and Reeder’s Alley. Tours run Monday–Friday evenings, September 22 through October, with extended tours offered Friday nights. Tickets $40 ($50 for extended tours). Recommended for ages 14+. Costumes encouraged!
Unseen Missoula: Screams & Spirits - Missoula, Montana: Take a 90-minute walking tour exploring Missoula’s haunted history, including forgotten cemeteries, abandoned buildings, and true crime stories. Recommended for ages 12+. Costumes welcome. Thursdays–Sundays in October, ending October 30 – Starts in front of First Interstate Bank. Dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes. Tickets required.
Bannack Ghost Walk - Dillon, Montana: Take a 1½-hour guided tour through Bannack State Park with costumed performers reenacting chilling events from the town’s past. Shows at 7 PM and 9 PM on October 24–25. Loud sounds used; not recommended for small children or pets. Dress for the weather. Tickets required: $15 (ages 13+), $10 (12 & under).
Billings Magic City Ghost Tours - Billings, Montana: Take a 1-hour walking tour exploring haunted sites and eerie apparitions around Boothill Cemetery and downtown Billings. Tours run nightly, starting in front of the Yellowstone Art Museum. Extended tours to additional locations available. Recommended for ages 12+.

Bozeman Haunted Hop Bar Crawl - Bozeman, Montana: Get access to some of Bozeman’s hottest bars and nightclubs for the ultimate Halloween crawl. Live DJs, music, and costumes encouraged. Friday, October 31 – 7:30 p.m
Ladies Night Out - Polson, Montana: Grab your friends and enjoy a festive evening of shopping, food, drinks, and deals in downtown Polson. Costumes encouraged! Friday, October 24 – 5:00–8:00 p.m. First 200 customers receive a Trick-or-Treat bag.
Billings Halloween Bar Crawl - Billings, Montana: Two nights of spooky fun with 5+ venues, 2–3 free drinks or shots, exclusive specials, and a crazy after party. One ticket is good for both nights. Costumes encouraged! October 31 & November 1, 4 PM–12 AM. Check-in at Thirsty Street Brewing Co, 4–6 PM. Tickets required.
The Golden Ghouls - Missoula, Montana: A spooky comedy show starring your favorite golden gals at the Shady Pines Halloween Ball. Thursday, October 9 – Doors 7:00 p.m., Show 8:00 p.m. at Zootown Arts Community Center. Tickets $10–$20
The Rocky Horror Show - Great Falls, Montana: Celebrate Halloween with the cult-classic musical at The Newberry. Costumes encouraged and audience participation welcome. Friday, October 31 – Doors 8:00 p.m., Show 9:00 p.m. Late-night show: Doors 11:15 p.m., Show 12:00 a.m. (Nov. 1). Ages 18+. Tickets $25–$50
Tips for Enjoying Halloween Events in Montana
Many events are family-friendly and free, but haunted attractions usually require tickets.
Some events sell out quickly—reserve in advance when possible.
Dress warmly—it’s Montana in October, so costumes may need coats, hats, or boots.
