From pumpkin patches to harvest festivals, there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate the season with family and friends. Whether you’re a local or visiting, here’s your go-to guide for the best fall activities in the region.


Pumpkin Patches in Montana

There’s nothing quite like picking out the perfect pumpkin to kick off fall. Whether you’re carving jack-o’-lanterns or decorating your porch, these local farms have you covered:


  • Turner Farms - Missoula, Montana: A family favorite with U-pick pumpkins, farm animals, and a cozy farm store.


  • Meadowlark Farm - Hamilton, Montana: Known for stunning mountain views and a charming pumpkin patch experience.


  • Sweet Pickin’s - Kalispell, Montana: More than just pumpkins. Enjoy giant jumping pillows, petting zoo, giant sandbox, and more. Opens September 20th for the 2025 season.


  • T&C Farms Farm Festival & Pumpkin Patch - Laurel, Montana: Opening September 19, 2025, with pumpkins, fall activities, and family fun every Friday–Sunday through October 26. 


  • Johnson’s Pumpkin Patch - Helena, Montana: Enjoy pumpkin picking, a corn maze, Halloween photo ops, a giant pumpkin bounce house, haunted greenhouse, games, and baked treats. Open September 27–28 & October 4–5 (additional weekend possible), 12 PM–5 PM. Cash & checks only.

Corn Mazes & Hayrides

Get lost in a sea of stalks or enjoy a scenic hayride at these fun-filled fall farms:


  • Field of Screams - Victor, Montana: By day, families can enjoy wagon rides, the PlaHAY Ground slides, and pumpkin picking. The cornfield is open for exploring without the scares, plus new photo ops in their western town. Daytime attractions run Saturdays in October from 1–8:30 p.m. and one special Friday, Oct. 17 from 1-5:30 p.m.


  • Applestem Cornmaze and Pumpkin Patch - Craig, Montana: Open September 13–October 26, 2025, with a 10-acre maze, pumpkin patch, farm animals, and family-friendly activities like slides, trains, and games.


  • Montana Corn Maze - Manhattan, Montana: Opening day kicks off on Saturday, September 20, 2025, featuring a 6-acre corn maze (with three challenge levels), maze-adjacent fun like trikes, disc golf, wagon rides, and more—plus weekend food vendors.


  • Bozeman Maze - Bozeman, Montana: Opening mid-September 2025. Enjoy a 5,000-bale corn maze, hayrides, mini-train, PowerJump bungee trampoline, corn bins, games, photo spots, and concessions. Weekly hours vary; general admission $13, children 5–11 $11, age 4 and under free.


  • Edgewater Farms Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch - Townsend, Montana: Explore a corn maze, pumpkin patch, and fall fun. Open Fridays 4–9 PM & Saturdays 11 AM–9 PM, September 19–October 25. Tickets: $12, $10 first responders/military, free under 3. Cash and credit accepted; food vendors accept cash only. Last ticket sold at 8 PM.

Apple Picking & Cider Tastings

Nothing says fall like fresh apples and warm cider. These orchards and cideries offer seasonal picking and tastings:


  • Swanson's Mountain View Orchard - Corvallis, Montana: Apple U-Pick September 20th& 21st and 27th & 28th from 10:00am-5:00pm


  • Green Bench Orchard - Missoula, Montana: Green Bench Orchard, Missoula - Check their Facebook for harvest days and hours, then head out for apple-picking fun! The Fairy Trail returns for its third year of magical fun September 27–28 & October 4–5, 2025. Leading up to the event, enjoy made-from-scratch “fairy apples” (fresh caramel apples) starting September 6 to help support the project.


Fall Festivals & Harvest Events

Celebrate the season with local food, crafts, music, and more at these community events:


  • Garden City Harvest Pumpkin Party - Pumpkin Celebration at The PEAS Farm, Missoula, Montana: On Saturday, October 18 from 11:00am-3:00pm, enjoy pumpkin picking and carving, fresh cider, and a fall produce stand. Costumes are encouraged, admission is free, and everyone’s welcome.


  • Townsend Rotary Fall Fest - Townsend, Montana: October 3–5, 2025, this free three-day festival features live music, food and craft vendors, the famous Rotary brats, and one of Montana’s largest car shows. 


  • Fall Harvest Festival - Missoula, Montana: Sunday, October 5, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m., join the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula for an annual celebration featuring old-fashioned cider-making, food trucks, local vendors, and festive fun for all ages.


  • Fall Family Festival - Missoula, Montana:  Saturday, October 18, 2025, 1–4 p.m. Enjoy cider pressing, hayrides, games, food, and family-friendly activities. Free to attend; $2 donation to the Share The Fun Scholarship Fund encouraged.


  • Big Sky Oktoberfest - Big Sky, Montana: September 26–28, 2025. Celebrate with Bavarian beer, German eats like bratwurst and pretzels, live music, big-screen football, traditional games, and the popular Lederhosen Fun Run.


  • Troy Apple Festival - Troy, Montana: Friday, September 26, 2025 from 1:30 pm 6:00pm. Celebrate fall with fresh-pressed cider, apple treats, a pie bake-off, live music, and kids’ activities.


  • Yellowstone Alliance Adventures Harvest Market - Bozeman, Montana: Saturday, October 4, 2025, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Enjoy local vendors, food, pumpkin patch, tractor hayrides, bounce houses, climbing wall, axe throwing, zipline, and family-friendly games. Free admission; suggested $10 parking donation.


  • Great Northwest Oktoberfest - Whitefish, Montana: October 2–4 and 9–11, 2025. Celebrate two weekends of German food, drink, music, dancing, contests, and local vendors. Tickets $10; kids under 12 free with a parent. 


  • Oktoberfest - Billings, Montana: Saturday, October 18, 2025, 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Held at Beartooth Harley-Davidson, this event features Bavarian food samples and a beer garden. Guests can make a $5 donation to vote for their favorite dish or brew. Proceeds support the ROADDOGS IRO Toy Run to help local kids at Christmas.


  • 21st Billings HarvestFest - Billings, Montana: Saturday, October 11, 2025, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Presented by Downtown Billings & Montana Brewing Company, this downtown street festival features arts and crafts, pumpkins, local produce, food trucks, live entertainment, a children’s area, and Montana Brewing Company’s Oktoberfest Beer Garden with a stein-hoisting contest.


  • 12th Annual Holiday Kickoff - Billings, Montana: Saturday, October 18, 2025, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. & Sunday, October 19, 2025, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Enjoy two days of shopping at Garden Ave Greenhouse, featuring over 100 local vendors, food trucks, pumpkins, mums, and holiday decorations.

Tips for Enjoying Fall Events in Montana
