Seasonal Highlights: What to Look For

May & June — The early season is all about cool-weather crops. Look for asparagus, radishes, spinach, lettuce, and the first herbs of the year. Greenhouse starts are everywhere if you're still filling out your garden.

July & August — Peak season. Berries, sweet corn, zucchini, tomatoes, fresh-cut flowers, honey, and more. This is when markets are at their biggest and most buzzing.

September & October — The fall harvest brings root vegetables, winter squash, apples, pears, and some of the heartiest flavors of the year. Markets start to thin out but the produce is exceptional.

Beyond the Produce: What Else You'll Find

Montana farmers markets are as much about local makers as they are about fresh food. Across the state, you'll typically find:

  • Artisan food vendors — jams, hot sauces, baked goods, locally roasted coffee, charcuterie, and more

  • Montana-made goods — jewelry, ceramics, textiles, candles, and handmade home goods

  • Plants and flowers — seedlings, cut flowers, native plants, and wreaths

  • Prepared food — breakfast burritos, crepes, wood-fired pizza, and other grab-and-go options depending on the market

  • Live music — many markets feature local musicians, making the whole thing feel like a low-key weekly festival
