Montana Breweries Worth the Visit

Montana does craft beer right. From lively tap rooms to hidden gems in small towns you've never heard of, Montana punches well above its weight in the brewing world. Below are some of our favorite places, but for a full list of breweries across the state, visit the Montana Brewers Association.

Bigfork

📍 116 Holt Dr, Bigfork, MT 59911

Perched on the shores of one of the largest natural freshwater lakes west of the Mississippi, Flathead Lake Brewing is as much about the setting as the beer, though the Huckleberry Ale holds its own. The Bigfork pubhouse serves a full menu with lake views, and the bison & elk burger with huckleberry bacon jam has become something of a signature. A natural stop on any Flathead Valley itinerary.

Billings

📍 815 Yellowstone River Rd, Billings, MT 59105

Equal parts coffee shop, taproom, and community hub, 1ō5 does something few breweries attempt. They open at 6am and do it all well. Morning mochas give way to afternoon craft beer and sours, with food trucks, trivia nights, and line dancing filling out the calendar. A genuine neighborhood gathering place in Billings Heights.

📍 20 N 30th St, Billings, MT 59101

One of Billings' oldest and most beloved taprooms, Angry Hank's keeps things simple and does it right: $4 pints and a lineup of house beers that have earned a devoted local following for decades. The Street Fight Imperial Red shows up on tap lists all over town.

Bozeman

📍 1609 S 11th Ave, Bozeman, MT 59715

One of Bozeman's most well-known names, Bridger Brewing pairs a solid rotating tap list with wood-fired pizza that earns serious praise on its own. The Kölsch is a perennial favorite, the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, and it's the kind of place that works equally well for a quick lunch or a long afternoon.

📍 510 Manley Rd, Bozeman, MT 59715

Open since 2015 at the foothills of the Bridger Mountains, MAP specializes in award-winning beers, locally sourced food, and views that are genuinely hard to beat. They took home Large Brewery of the Year at the 2025 Montana Beer Awards. Grab a seat on the patio and see why.

Butte

📍 124 W Broadway St, Butte, MT 59701

Brewing since 2012 in a city with serious character, Quarry has become Butte's craft beer anchor. The basement taproom leans into the town's mining history with a cool, lived-in atmosphere: free popcorn, arcade games for the kids, Mug Mondays for the regulars, and a wide-ranging tap list that rewards multiple visits.

Great Falls

📍 412 Central Ave, Great Falls, MT 59401

Housed in a stunning renovated historic building in downtown Great Falls, Mighty Mo brews their beer using water straight from the Missouri River, hence the name. Hand-crafted beer and fresh pizza made on site make it the beating heart of downtown Great Falls, and locals have been packing it since 2013.

Hamilton

📍 518 N 1st St, Hamilton, MT 59840

Higherground Brewing brings a hip, cozy atmosphere and brick oven pizza that gives the beer serious competition for best thing on the menu. The Thai pizza, topped with peanut sauce, shredded chicken, mushrooms, Asian greens, and crushed peanuts, is a standout worth ordering. A varied seasonal tap list and friendly staff make it well worth the stop.

Havre

📍 675 1st St W, Havre, MT 59501

A hidden gem on the Hi-Line that surprises everyone who finds it. Triple Dog has been quietly turning out exceptional beer. The Fresno Wheat and Chocolate Stout both draw raves, in a warm, welcoming taproom that feels like the best-kept secret in north-central Montana. Food trucks rotate out front on weekends.

Helena

📍 1517 Dodge Ave, Helena, MT 59601

Brewing since 2002 in a renovated historic building, Lewis & Clark uses Montana-grown barley and pure local water. Live music, local art, and a welcoming taproom make it Helena's community anchor.

📍 66 S Park Ave, Helena, MT 59601

A Helena staple with a rustic taproom, outdoor patio, free popcorn by the door, and fermenters you can see from your seat. Consistently rated among the best breweries in Montana, locals and travelers alike can't say enough good things about it.

📍 48 N Last Chance Gulch, Helena, MT 59601

Right on Helena's historic Last Chance Gulch, Ten Mile Creek pairs a standout rotating beer list with wood-fired pizza that earns its own following. Spacious indoor and outdoor seating, happy hour pint deals, and a location that makes it an easy anchor for an afternoon in downtown Helena.

Kalispell

📍 3250 US Hwy 2 E, Kalispell, MT 59901

On the eastern edge of Kalispell, Sacred Waters earns its reputation with a wide beer selection, genuinely good food, and frequent live music. The jasmine rice brew has picked up awards, but really the whole lineup rewards exploration. If you're heading into Glacier country, this is a fine place to fuel up.

Lakeside

📍 105 Blacktail Rd, Lakeside, MT 59922

Nestled at the base of Blacktail Mountain along the shores of Flathead Lake, Tamarack has been a Flathead Valley institution for good reason. The creekside patio is the draw in summer, and the fireplace pulls just as hard après ski in winter. Full pub menu, happy hour Monday through Friday, and a warm family-friendly vibe make it an easy stop between Kalispell and Polson.

Livingston

📍 117 W Park St, Livingston, MT 59047

Named for the wind that rips down from the Absarokas right into Livingston, Katabatic is a small brewery that punches well above its size. Their Muzzleloader Chocolate Stout and Peaks to Prairie Session Pale both took Gold at the 2025 Montana Beer Awards.

Missoula

📍 915 Toole Ave, Missoula, MT 59801

A Missoula staple in the heart of the Midtown district, known for a constantly rotating lineup and a laid-back taproom that welcomes everyone from post-hike trail runners to locals settling in for the evening. The food truck rotation out front is half the reason to visit.

📍 200 International Dr, Missoula, MT 59808

One of Montana's most recognizable brands, brewed right here in Missoula. The TapHouse is a destination in its own right, with artisan pizza, a sprawling outdoor patio along Grant Creek, a pavilion, and plenty of room for lawn games.

Philipsburg

📍 101 W Broadway, Philipsburg, MT 59858

A gem tucked into a tiny mountain town between Missoula and Butte. The taproom sits right on Philipsburg's charming main street, which also happens to have a sapphire mine and one of the best candy stores in the state. Make it a weekend detour.

Stevensville

📍 114 Main St, Stevensville, MT 59870

Right on Main Street in one of the Bitterroot Valley's most charming small towns, Blacksmith lives up to its name: big welcoming space, western atmosphere, and tasty beer. Dog-friendly, community-minded, and well worth the stop.

Whitefish

📍 549 Wisconsin Ave, Whitefish, MT 59937

A laid-back Whitefish favorite with a large dog-friendly outdoor space, a varied tap list, and a food menu that doesn't disappoint. The burgers in particular have a cult reputation. Order at the counter, grab a buzzer, and settle in.
