Based in Bozeman, Montana, Becca Skinner is a photographer, writer, and National Geographic Young Explorer whose work captures the powerful connection between people, wild places, and purpose. Through her lens, Becca blends conservation and adventure storytelling — creating images that remind us why protecting the places we explore matters.

Here’s what she had to say when we asked her about life in Montana, creativity, and the inspiration behind her work.

What’s one Montana landscape that always leaves you in awe, no matter how many times you see it?

Every time I drive down Trail Creek Road in Paradise Valley and Emigrant Peak comes into view, I'm just amazed.

If you could snap your fingers and instantly solve one conservation issue in the West, what would it be?

Whew- water! Water quantity and quality is one of the most pressing issues and is at top of mind for me.

You’ve traveled the world—what makes Montana feel like “home” to you?

These big wide open skies made me feel right at home. Also quick access to multiple ranges and rivers- how can you beat it?

Quickfire: river trip or mountain trek? bison or grizzlies? journal or camera?

Mountain trek, bison and camera! Sounds like a great day.

What’s inspiring your work most right now?

Agriculture and food systems are at the center of what I do across most work. I feel motivated to see more food grown within the state, stay within the state to feed our communities.
